Steel emergency staircase in Frechen – a safe solution for a sports facility

As part of the modernization of sports facilities in Frechen, we delivered a steel emergency staircase, providing a safe and durable solution for users. The structure enables efficient evacuation from several floors in compliance with European safety standards, while the use of high-quality steel and hot-dip galvanizing ensures corrosion resistance and long-term durability.

Steel emergency staircase – safety and compliance with standards

The project included the design, production, and installation of a steel emergency staircase system with steps and landings, reaching a total height of 13,324 mm. The module width is 1,000 mm, based on the step dimension of 270 × 1000 mm. The steps and landings were manufactured using steel grating with a 34 × 38 mm mesh and 40 × 3 mm load-bearing bars, ensuring high stiffness and slip resistance. The main structure and railings were protected with a hot-dip galvanized coating in accordance with ISO 1461.

The construction was designed in compliance with DIN 18065 and meets the load requirements of EN 1991-1-1: a uniform load of 5 kN/m² and point loads of 2.54 kN (10×10 cm), 3.39 kN (15×15 cm), and 4.24 kN (20×20 cm), with a handrail load of 1 kN/m. The first and last steps of each flight were marked with contrasting colors, improving safety and user comfort.
